Best Uses for Peppermint Essential Oil
I am going to start off right here saying that I don’t sell essential oils for a MLM company. I have nothing against DoTerra or Young Living, but I don’t sell either one. Both companies have great quality products, but I want to start this series by letting you know that I don’t sell either one and I am not trying to recruit you. 😉 I will let you know what I recommend below, but wanted to start this with the disclaimer that I am not a distributor or a member of any group like this!
Now that we have that out of the way, on to the good stuff! The best uses for peppermint essential oil is post one in a series that I will be doing about essential oils. I love using essential oils in our home, but I use them in a very realistic way. If you’re interested in trying essential oils, but think some of what you’ve read is just “too much” then this series will be for you! The series will be full of practical and realistic uses for essential oils, along with advice on which brands I recommend and safety tips.
Peppermint oil for headaches and body aches
My absolute favorite uses for peppermint oil is for headaches. I very rarely use anything else. I add a drop or two to coconut oil and then rub it on. Make note to be very careful around the eyes! Peppermint oil can also be used for various other body aches and pains.
Diffusing peppermint oil for energy
Peppermint oil can be used in an oil diffuser in my house I use this one and this one for several benefits. It smells great, but peppermint oil is also great for feeling alert and energetic! I love to pair it with orange or frankincense essential oil. In our house, I use this diffuser. I used to have the Young Living diffuser, which I loved, but it broke. 🙁
Keeping the bugs away
Most bugs hate peppermint essential oil! This is great because bug repellents are usually full of icky ingredients that aren’t safe around kids and pets. Putting essential oil on cotton balls and placing them around the room can help keeps bugs at bay. Remember that essential oils should be used carefully around children and pets, but I do believe that they are a better option than most. You can also make a spray and add peppermint and citronella essential oils, but make sure to shake it before use since the oil will sit on top of the water.
Bath and Body
One of the best uses for peppermint essential oil is for bath and body products. Make sure that you do not react to peppermint oil before using it! Peppermint oil has a cooling sensation and is often used in foot scrubs and other body products.
Food & a note about safety
I personally do not ingest essential oils. If you choose to do this, make sure to use a high quality oil and use it sparingly. I recommend checking out the Using EOs safely website and Facebook group for information about essential oil safety. You may need to figure out what works for you, but there is a lot of good information on this website.
As you can see by my little arsenal, I really do love peppermint oil!
Bliss Beauty Organic Essential Oil Review
Bliss Beauty sent me a bottle of their organic peppermint essential oil for review. I thought it would be the perfect time to start my essential oil series! This post is not sponsored but I did want to include my review of their product within the best uses for peppermint essential oil post.
My first impression of Bliss Beauty peppermint oil was the smell from my mailbox. Unfortunately some of the product had leaked during shipping, but it did smell great! I lost about 10% of what was originally in the bottle. The company did send me this oil for review, but if I had purchased it myself I would have been upset about the packaging. The spillage also made the labels start to peel off. That wasn’t a huge deal because peppermint is pretty obvious, but you may notice it in the pictures.
Overall, the quality of the peppermint essential oil seems good! I compared it to Aura Cacia, Young Living and Plant Therapy oils that I had on hand and it seems very similar. I believe that this is a high quality oil and not diluted.
My issue with Bliss Beauty is that their products are all the same price. I have a hard time believing that a bottle of Frankincense oil sells for the same price as Lavender. The website states that the products are 100% natural, organic and pure. I do not know if they dilute their more expensive oils, but I can’t see how Frankincense is being sold at the same price as much less expensive oils.
In all honestly, I won’t be buying any products from Bliss Beauty Essential Oils. I thought the packaging was poor, and I feel like the more expensive oils are either diluted or synthetic. I appreciate the company sending me a sample, but I want to be fully transparent with my readers and I can’t recommend anything that I wouldn’t buy myself. If you want to know where I buy my oils, keep reading!
Where to buy essential oils
I buy most of my oils from a company called Plant Therapy. The prices are very reasonable and I have been very impressed with the quality. Plant therapy oils are sold on Amazon by Plant Therapy and fulfilled by Amazon. This means that they are included in Prime 2 day shipping! If you are curious about Prime, use this link to try it free for 30 days!
If you’re just getting started using essential oils, I recommend trying this set from Plant Therapy. It includes peppermint essential oil and thirteen other popular singles and blends. In addition to using Plant Therapy, I also like Aura Cacia oils, which I buy from Amazon or Thrive Market. This starter kit from Aura Cacia includes peppermint, lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree oils. I have used Young Living essential oils, and I do like them! They are very good quality. I do buy them occasionally, but I usually choose Aura Cacia or Plant Therapy instead. I didn’t make this post to start an argument, but third party testing has tested brands like Aura Cacia to be just as good as Young Living or DoTerra.
