August Blog Traffic Report + Stats and Goals
To be completely honest, I haven’t done very well of tracking my goals or progress in the last year or so of blogging. This might come as a surprise if you know me, I’m a list person. For some reason, I haven’t done a great job keeping track of things, and about a month ago I decided to change that. As you might know, my husband and I started a travel blog about two months ago. I wanted to move my travel stuff over there (a popular topic) and focus on what my audience wants to see, which is mostly parenting, finances, and general life balance for the busy mom. Every month, I am going to include a blog traffic report, social media stats, my goals, and life updates. Without rambling further, here is the August Blog Traffic report.

Traffic Report, Income & Goals
The last few months have been hit or miss when it comes to blog income. It seems to average a couple hundred dollars a month. If I ever get above that number, I may start doing regular income reports. For now, I am going to stick with blog traffic reports, stats, and goals for the next month.
My “big” monetary goal is to earn $2000 a month by the end of the year. I feel like $2000 per month will make all of the effort that I put into blogging (somewhat) “worth it.” My ultimate goal, the number that I want to reach monetarily, is $5000 per month. I know that there are many, many bloggers who make more, but that is the goal that I’ve set for myself. Working as a VA is something else that I plan to look into over the coming months. It’s something that I have done before, but primarily for other photographers. I am looking to start again and extend my services to other bloggers.
I credit the small amount that I do make from blogging to Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. I’ve been using affiliate marketing since I started my blog, but I only started seeing income after completing the course. I am starting to do some sponsored posts, and my ad income is very slowly increasing.
Stepping back into July
These are the goals that I set at the end of July. Some of them were a success, some were close, and the others were an opportunity to learn.
Blog Traffic Goals
AmyFillinger.com: 7500 sessions in August.
Amy and Brandon Adventures: 5000 sessions in August.
The result? 8107 sessions for amyfillinger.com this month, yay! I had massive trouble with Google Analytics, so I don’t actually know if this was my best month ever. The site you’re on now used to be my photography site, and Google confused them for a long time. Anyway, it’s finally fixed so I can accurately gauge growth from here on it. I know that every month will be better than the one before!
As for Amy & Brandon Adventures, well, that news is less exciting. We only had 1340 sessions, only up 68 sessions from the month before. I actually wrote six posts for our travel blog, and only three for this blog (plus two awesome guest posts.) I know that sometimes posts take a while to get traction, but I was still surprised at the small number of sessions on the travel blog.
Social Media Goals
I set some social media goals, but I didn’t do much to work on them. I spent most of the month working on the new YouTube channel, but other areas did grow a tiny bit too.
Twitter: My goal for Twitter was 300 followers for this blog and 100 for Amy & Brandon Adventures. We’re currently at 275 and 92, so it was close. I am not doing much with Twitter, but it’s on my never ending to-do list.
Instagram: My goal for the travel blog was 200 followers. We reached 124, so it was short but still gained 40 followers. Instagram is hard. I feel like the follow/unfollow thing is such a big deal on there. I hate it. I will focus on Instagram more at a later date, but it doesn’t bring in much traffic, so it isn’t urgent to me.
Pinterest: I forgot to set a goal for Pinterest, but I gained over 100 followers. I am happy with that number. My goal for September is 1500 followers (currently at 1340.) I believe that it’s a modest, attainable number. I have seen quite a bit of growth on Pinterest since I started using Tailwind. Full review on Tailwind, coming soon.
Email List: One thing that I completely forget about in July was my email list! It did grow, but I’m not sure on the exact number. My goal was to break 300, and I’m currently at 302. This next month is going to be crazy, so I’m not setting a specific goal. However, I’d like to reach 1000 by the end of the year, which is a big goal for me!
Facebook: Oh Facebook. I hate Facebook. Facebook is confusing. I do have over 2200 followers on my photography page , but that has grown organically and slowly over the years. I currently have 104 likes (mostly friends) on the page for this blog, and 23 for Amy & Brandon Adventures.
These are sad, sad numbers, so I decided to do something about it. I decided to go ahead and purchase Strategies Worth Sharing. I’ve kept hearing about it, and I decided to go ahead and buy it. I’ve seen Michelle of Making Sense of Cents recommend it often. Well, if it’s good enough for Michelle, it’s definitely good enough for me! I just downloaded the books to my Kindle, so I’ll let you know how it goes!

Most Popular Post for the month: 7 best things to do on the Big Island of Hawaii
The top post was not surprising. It was my most popular post ever on this blog, and I’ve moved all travel related content over there!
August was a busy month! We took two (last minute) trips to Florida. We started a YouTube channel. There are twelve videos on the channel so far, and about six more in the works. If you’d like to get to know myself and my family a little better, you need to check out the channel. The kids went back to school last month, all three of them. The little one only goes for three hours a day, four days a week. It’s still strange having twelve uninterrupted hours to work!
September is going to be equally as busy, we’re heading to Hawaii on the 9th. We’ll be enjoying a little bit of a vacation, but also shooting a destination wedding in Maui. I am really excited about it! We have something else that’s big coming up at the end of the month, but I’ll be announcing that soon. Make sure to sign up for the newsletter, so you can be the first to see awesome deals, new posts, and more.
What worked and what didn’t
Overall, I would say that August was a good month. I met some of the goals that I had set, and others were close. The rest we will call part of the learning process. I spent some time reading up on blogging and listening to podcasts. Learning is so important, no matter what stage of life (or blogging) that you’re in. I read every book in Sarah Titus’s Honest Bloggers Bundle. I got mine as part of the BCStack (honestly, it’s the only thing I’ve looked at so far!) which is no longer available. You can still buy them from her website however, and I recommend them. I had no idea what an Alexa score meant until reading her book (included in the bundle) and I really love the Blogging Binder.
Goals for September
I talked about this earlier, but my main goal is to increase traffic next month. I want to put out posts that really resonate with my audience, and I’m definitely focusing on that. I’d really like to grow my email list, but like I said, I won’t put a number on that for September. I’ll be gone for almost half of September, and then really busy at the end of the month. We will see how it goes!
If you got this far, thank you so much for reading my August Blog Traffic report! I hope that my little blog will inspire you if you’re thinking about starting a blog yourself.
