Best Lego sets for preteen boys
Are you looking for a Lego set for a huge fan, but aren’t sure which one to get? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! I have three Lego-loving kids, and my oldest is a huge fan. One of his favorite hobbies is putting together his Lego sets. Kainan is 10 years old and he has given all of the following sets a thumbs up. This gift guide is geared toward preteen and young teen (8-14) boys, but girls of the same age or kids who are a little younger will probably enjoy these Lego sets as well.
If you have a Minecraft and LEGO fan, you’re set! We bought this in 2015 and it was a huge hit. This one is really cool because it’s a dragon, and I honestly don’t know what the rest of it is. Kainan explained it to me, but I still don’t get it. Either way, it looks cool! If you’re looking for a more affordable Minecraft Lego set, “The Cave” is highly rated, around $15 and perfect for preteen boys.
Best Star Wars Lego Sets
There are so many awesome Lego sets for the Star Wars fan. With the release of the new Star Wars movies, Star Wars is bigger than ever. As a huge fan myself, I’m happy about that! To be honest, I want most of these Lego sets for myself! They can get really pricey, like this amazing Death Star set.
If you’re looking for an affordable gift, we love the character figures, like the Darth Vader or Chewbacca figures. At around $20 or below, they’re a fun affordable gift that any Star Wars fan will love. Looking for more Star Wars gift ideas? I wrote the ultimate gift guide for Star Wars fans.
Thanks to Fantastic Beasts and where to find them, we’re seeing lots of new Harry Potters Lego sets this year. If you’re looking for the best Harry Potter Lego set, I’d recommend Hogwarts Great Hall. The Hogwarts Express Lego set is another great option and a must-have for any Harry Potter fan.
The Whomping Willow set from the Chamber of Secrets is one of my son’s favorites. If you’re looking for a great stocking stuffer, we had fun putting together Aragog’s Lair. Grindelwald’s escape would be another amazing stocking stuffer.
Speaking of Fantastic Beasts, Newt’s case of Magical Creatures would be a big hit for anyone who loved Fantastic Beasts and where to find them.
There are tons and tons (and tons) of Lego City sets. Kainan’s favorite has been this little van and caravan set. He has two of them! There are way too many other vehicles to name in the City collection, you can check them out here.
I didn’t have a good place to put this, but it was so fun that I had to include it. I didn’t know this Pirates of the Caribbean ship existed until I started writing this post, but it’s one of the coolest Lego sets I’ve seen!
To be honest, I have no idea what Ninjago actually is. My 10 and 5-year-olds love it, and some of their favorite Lego sets are Ninjago. You can find lots more Ninjago sets here.
Nexo Knights are another great choice when you’re looking for the best Lego sets for preteen boys. They’re really popular! This Fighter Blaster looks like fun. Kainan loves these little.. figure.. guys.. okay, I don’t know what they’re called. The link below shows all of them, and they’re really affordable (under $10.)
Other Cool Ideas
If you’re having trouble finding the perfect set, why not try a Lego related NON-set idea? Base plates are a pretty basic idea, but Kainan has been talking about saving his money to buy more of them. Amazon has lots and lots of Lego shirts. I’ve bought several and I’ve been impressed by the quality! There are also lots of fun Lego clocks, which Kainan has also hinted at wanting.
Books are another great Lego themed gift idea. We have quite a few of them in our house. 365 things to do with Lego Bricks is a favorite, along with LEGO Awesome ideas. LEGO character encyclopedias are another fun book idea. We have Star Wars and Ninjago. I also found character encyclopedias for DC comics superheroes, NEXO Knights, and Legends of Chima.
Once you find the perfect Lego gift, why not wrap it in Lego gift wrap?
If you’re looking for the perfect Lego set for the holidays, Advent Calendars have been a huge hit in our house! Kainan always requests Lego Star Wars, but they have Lego City advent calendar as well. My six-year-old daughter is also a huge fan of the Lego Friends advent calendar. Keep in mind that these advent calendars sell out almost every year!
