How to find real work at home jobs
If you’re a mom searching for real work at home jobs, the task can be daunting. There are lots of scams out there, and there are always old friends you haven’t heard from in years offering you the latest MLM opportunity. I am not saying that you can’t be successful with an MLM, but for this blog post, we aren’t focusing on that type of work.
There are many types of work at home jobs for moms, including employee, contractor and self-employment opportunities. You should first decide whether you’d like to be an employee or self-employed, and then pursue opportunities that are a great fit for you. Remember that any prior experience, even if it wasn’t from home, can be very helpful for most of these work at home jobs!
10 real work at home jobs for moms
Customer Service Representative
This is one of the most basic work at home jobs for moms, and one of the easiest to get. If you have prior customer service experience, getting an online job as a customer service representative may be easier than you think! Many companies like Apple, Amazon, and YNAB hire remote customer service agents. You can also look into companies like ModSquad who hire contractors to work for a variety of companies.
One of the easiest ways to get a job with a larger company is to get hired on during the holiday season. Most companies need more help during the holidays, and you have a better chance of getting hired. Even if you’re hired for a temporary seasonal job, the company may keep you if they’re impressed with your work.
Search Engine Evaluator
This was actually one of my very first work at home jobs. The advantage of this job is that you can usually work when you’d like to. The disadvantage that I found were very irregular hours and they often let people go for no reason at all other than overstaffing. The good news is that it can be easy to get a job like this without any prior work at home experience, a huge bonus! You can find this type of job at Leapforce, Lionbridge, and Appen.
Freelance writing is a great job for a stay at home mom with writing skills. This isn’t a way to get rich quickly, but it’s a great start to working at home. There are several ways to earn an income as a freelance blogger. You can write for companies like Textbroker, this type of job has very low pay, but can help you get experience. You can also write paid articles for other bloggers or offer your services as a writer on Upwork.
Being an online teacher is a great work at home job for moms, and it usually pays pretty well! Many online teacher jobs require a college degree, and in many cases, the jobs involve teaching English. If you have a degree and enjoy teaching, this is a great work at home opportunity. This isn’t an area where I am an expert, but I did find this post by FlexJobs that lists 5 great companies to work for as a virtual teacher.
You might be saying to yourself that working as a photographer isn’t a work at home job. Well, this is true! However, 95% of photography actually is working from home, and it’s something that can be worked on your own schedule. So even if you don’t have any childcare, you could schedule shoots only for times when your husband is home to watch the kids, etc.
Want to know more about being your own boss and running a photography business? There will be a lot more on this to come, make sure to get on my email list so that you don’t miss it!
Being a virtual assistant is one of my favorite real work at home jobs. If you have experience in a variety of areas and are wanting to work for yourself and set your own schedule, working as a virtual assistant is a great option. There are many services that you can offer as a virtual assistant, such as:
- Social media management
- Email marketing
- Technical services
- Graphic Design
- Administrative support
If you have experience in any of these areas, it shouldn’t be too difficult to start a virtual assistant business. Previous experience in an office environment? You can offer general administrative services like emails, setting up meetings, booking travel arrangements, transcription or managing a calendar. If you have a more specialized skill, like advanced knowledge of social media marketing or technical knowledge, you will be able to charge quite a bit more.
I will be writing more about being a Virtual Assistant soon, but there are a few things that you can do to get started. The first is to join Facebook groups for Virtual Assistants. You can also approach local businesses and offer your services, you never know where your first client might come from!
While this is a real work at home job, it isn’t for everyone. If you already have a large following on any social media platform, being a brand ambassador can be a great way to bring in some extra cash. The best way to do this is to look for brands that you want to work. If you choose brands that you don’t particularly care about, your audience will know that it’s not geniune.
If you have a technical background, there are a number of jobs that you can do at home. There are many real employers who offer jobs like this from home, or you can start by offering freelance work.
If you have a graphic design background, it’s easy to take your skills and start your own design business from home. Not sure if you want to be an entrepreneur? There are plenty of graphic design jobs out there that allow remote work. You can work in a variety of different areas, from creating logos and social media images to creating ads or even holiday cards.
My friend Andrea at To Simplicity has been in graphic design for over 10 years, she says her most popular type of work are postcards, flyers, and ads. She also creates printables to sell on Etsy, which is another great option for graphic designers.
