The best resorts in Maui
Who hasn’t dreamed of a Maui vacation? Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian islands and is the second most popular tourist destination (after Oahu.)
Maui is the perfect destination for honeymooners, families, and anyone who loves beautiful white-sand beaches. You’ll have plenty of options if you’re looking for the best resorts in Maui.
Maui is shaped somewhat like a lopsided figure 8. The two main resort areas are the Wailea/Makena/Kihei area in South Maui and the Ka’anapali/Lahaina area in West Maui.
You’ll need a car on Maui, if you don’t have one yet, I recommend Discount Hawaii Car Rentals for the best deals.
For this list of the best resorts in Maui, I have split it up into South Maui, West Maui, and Hana, which is on the far east side of the island. You’ve probably heard of Hana because of the famous Hana Highway. Don’t miss: The ultimate guide to the Road to Hana to learn more!
The best place to stay on Maui
Maui is one of the best places to see whales in the winter and offers some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii; with diverse landscapes, top-rated golf courses, high-end resorts, and some of the best adventure activities around, Maui is the perfect vacation destination.
I have free Maui itineraries to help you plan your vacation. Check out my 4-day Maui itinerary and my 7-day Maui itinerary.
Now, let’s get to the 10 best resorts in Maui. If you’re looking for the best 5-star resorts on Maui, I have a post about those too.
Wailea/Kihei/Makena area (South Maui)
Here are the best resorts in South Maui, in no particular order.
1. Four Seasons Maui Resort at Wailea
No list of the best resorts would be complete without mentioning the Four Seasons. The 5-star Four Seasons Maui Resort at Wailea is no exception. Located in Wailea, close to many other high-end resorts, the Four Seasons is perfect for honeymoons.

The Four Seasons shares a beach with the Grand Wailea (mentioned later), which is another beautiful resort. Check prices for your travel dates at the Four Seasons here.
2. Hotel Wailea
Hotel Wailea is one of the highest-rated resorts in Maui. It is adults-only, making it the perfect choice for a honeymoon. Although it is not located on the beach, it has beautiful views. You can take a hotel shuttle, drive, or even walk down to Wailea Beach.

If adults-only is a must, this is the only option that I recommend! A close second is the Andaz, mentioned below, but it is not technically adults-only. Check out my full Hotel Wailea Review here.

3. Grand Wailea
Unlike the nearby adults-only Hotel Wailea, the 4-star Grand Wailea is a great resort for families. It features a fun waterpark and shares a beach with the Four Seasons Resort. While this is fantastic for families, the resort is great for honeymooners with plenty of adults-only areas.
The luxury 40-acre oceanfront resort features nine pools, seven bars, and seven restaurants. In 2023, the property underwent a 300-million-dollar renovation, including over 50 million in renovations to the spa.
One of the highlights is the newly renovated Kilolani Spa. This spa is a must for anyone in the Wailea area, whether you’re staying at Grand Wailea or not. Drawing inspiration from the Hawaiian moon calendar, which divides each month into three moon phases, Kilolani Spa creates the space for healing, rejuvenation, and restoration.

4. Fairmont Kea Lani
The Fairmont Kea Lani is another hotel in the beautiful Wailea area. This 4.5-star resort is all-suites or villas and is excellent for families. It is located on Polo Beach. If you have 3-4 children, this is a great option as it’s impossible to get everyone into a regular hotel room, and the suites and villas at Fairmont Kea Lani are a perfect alternative!

5. Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
The Andaz Maui is a luxury resort set on 15 oceanfront acres. The four on-site restaurants offer fresh, local cuisine, some of the best on the island. Ka’ana Kitchen offers the best breakfast in Wailea, which isn’t just my opinion! I had a hotel manager from another hotel tell me this, and I agree!
If a high-end eco-friendly resort is essential to you, the Andaz Maui is a great option. The Andaz Maui is one of my top choices for honeymoon resorts in Hawaii, and there are often celebrity sightings at this trendy resort.
Although the Andaz Maui is not adults-only, it does not offer many amenities for children, so it is better for adults and teens than younger children. Check prices during your travel dates here.
Ka’anapali Area (West Maui)
Here are the best resorts in West Maui in no particular order.
6. Hyatt Regency Maui
The Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa is located at the end of Ka’anapali Beach. Amenities include oceanfront golfing as well as a traditional luau. The Hyatt Regency is an excellent option for families.
The amenities and services at this Maui resort are spread out on 40 acres of beachfront property. The entire resort went through a major renovation in 2020.
There is an adults-only pool, but it is located next door at the Hyatt timeshare property. However, it is available for use for those staying at the Hyatt Regency Maui if you need to get away from the family-friendly pools at the Hyatt. Personally, I’ve found that there are enough pools (and they are big) where it wasn’t an issue!

7. Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa
The Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa is located on Ka’anapali Beach right in front of Black Rock. If you love snorkeling, this may be the resort for you!
Black Rock offers some of the best snorkeling on Maui. If you do love snorkeling, make sure to check out my snorkeling Molokini Crater review.

8. Marriot’s Maui Ocean Club
The Marriot’s Maui Ocean Club is located right in the heart of the 3-mile Ka’anapali Beach. The 3 towers are named after the main islands of Maui Nui (Molokai, Lanai, Maui.) The Marriot Ocean Club also has suites, which make it an excellent oceanfront option for families.

9. Ritz-Carlton Kapalua
Located in West Maui, the Ritz-Carton Kapalua is perfect for golfers and those who want the best of the best in a 5-star luxury resort.
The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua is more isolated than many resorts, making it perfect for those who want a quieter getaway. If you love golf, don’t miss The 15 best golf courses in Maui.

Hana (East Maui)
There’s only one resort in Hana, the Hana-Maui Resort!
10. Hana-Maui Resort
Hana-Maui Resort (now part of the Hyatt brand) opened in 1947 and expanded with the bungalow side in 1984.
Both the suites and bungalows are very large, much larger than your typical hotel or resort room. The sizes vary, but the bungalows are over 800 square feet, so about double the size of an average Hawaii hotel room.
While Hawaii has no true all-inclusive resorts, the Hana-Maui Resort (formerly Travaasa Hana) can be close as they sometimes offer meal packages. The Hana-Maui is tucked away near Hana (yes, as in the road to Hana) and is very quiet and different from anything else you’ll find.

Again, this is not an adults-only hotel; there may be fewer families here since it is so removed from the popular areas of Maui with fewer amenities for kids.
