The best adults only resorts in Hawaii
So you’re here because you’re looking for the best adults only resorts in Hawaii. You’re in the right place! My name is Amy, and I’m a Hawaii Travel Agent specializing in honeymoons and other romantic travel. Contact me if you’d like some help with your trip!
Although I also work with families, my primary focus is honeymoons and other romantic travel, such as anniversary trips or babymoons. Many of my clients come to me looking for adults only hotels in Hawaii. I created a list of adults-only properties in Hawaii for you today, but I also added some tips for an adults-only Hawaii vacation.
The first thing you should know is that there are very few adults only resorts in Hawaii. There’s only one true adults-only resort in Hawaii, and another is 14+.
However, many beautiful Hawaiian resorts have adults-only pools and other amenities. I will share some of my favorites below.
DO I NEED A RENTAL CAR IN Hawaii?
You’ll definitely need a car on any island other than maybe Oahu. Even then, I recommend having one. Public transportation isn’t very reliable outside of Oahu, so you need a car to get around. You’ll find the best prices anywhere at Discount Hawaii Car Rental.
Also, don’t miss my Hawaii itineraries if you want insider tips for your vacation but aren’t working with a travel agent.
Adults-only resorts in Maui
Maui seems like a beautiful place for a romantic, adults-only vacation, and it is! Fortunately, the one true adults only resort in Hawaii is located here!
Hotel Wailea, Relais & Châteaux
If you are looking for a true adults-only experience, you’ll find it at Hotel Wailea. This beautiful boutique hotel is located on 15 lush acres with sweeping ocean views and is designed exclusively for adults.
This is a very intimate setting with only 72 suites, a beautiful pool with complimentary cabanas, and one of the best restaurants in Wailea, The Restaurant. Check out the 25 best restaurants in Wailea Maui for more nearby dining options.
The suites at Hotel Wailea are large, 750 square feet, and have a separate living area and soaking tub. All suites are stocked with local drinks and snacks.
Hotel Wailea is very wellness-oriented, with open-air fitness classes, Peloton bikes, and top-of-the-line equipment. They also have an aerial yoga studio.
I have an entire review of Hotel Wailea, along with a Hotel Wailea resort tour and Celebration Suite tour on YouTube.
Andaz Maui
The Andaz Maui at Wailea is NOT an adults-only property, but it does make my list of the best resorts in Maui for adults. Why? Simply because there are fewer amenities for kids, you’ll see fewer of them there.
There’s a serene adults-only pool, and you can even get a swim-out suite that opens up to this pool. The entire area is adults-only, so you won’t have to worry about noisy kids splashing you!
The Andaz Maui has several of the best restaurants in Wailea onsite, so it’s an easy choice for those who want an adult atmosphere but also an oceanfront resort (since Hotel Wailea is not.)
Adults only resorts in Lanai
If you’re looking for adults only resorts in Lanai, you’ll find one! Well, it’s almost adults-only, as this wellness-oriented resort requires guests to be at least 14 years old.
Sensei Lanai
Sensei Lana is a Four Seasons property, but unlike more Four Seasons, it is not kid-friendly. The resort is 14 and up, but it’s wellness-oriented, so you won’t see many teens here, if any. In fact, it made the list of the top 7 wellness resorts in Hawaii.
This resort was one of the first wellness retreats on the Hawaiian Islands. Upon arrival, your personal sensei guide will create an itinerary that is best for you. The itineraries range from massage therapy, forest bathing, yin yoga, mindfulness classes, and sound healing.
If a wellness resort sounds right up your alley, this can be a great fit for an adults-only Hawaii vacation! I have a guide with things to do in Lanai so make sure to check it out!
other options for an adults-only hawaii vacation
While there are only two adults only resorts in Hawaii, most resorts in Hawaii have adults-only pools or other amenities. While there are too many to list, I will share some of my favorites:
Fairmont Kea Lani
Fairmont Kea Lani is located on the south side of Maui and is close to both the Andaz and Hotel Wailea.
Although I love this resort for families, due to the spacious suites and villas, the best thing for couples is the adults-only pool. It’s the largest in Maui! It also has the largest pool bar in Maui. Ama Bar and Grill is a beautiful large swim-up bar, incredibly rare in Hawaii. In fact, there are only three swim-up bars in Maui.
Four Seasons Maui
If you want the best of the best, you know you’ll find it at Four Seasons Maui. Unfortunately, another thing you’ll find at Four Seasons is lots of kids! That said, Four Seasons Maui is a smaller resort and one of the two pools is adults-only. It’s another of the three resorts in Maui with a swim-up bar.
Club Level at Four Seasons Maui is incredible, and I highly recommend it if it fits within your budget. We have a video tour of Four Seasons Maui and an oceanfront club suite tour for a sneak peek of the club!
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel
Let’s hope to the Big Island for a minute for another one of my favorite resorts for adults in Hawaii. Mauna Kea Resort is not adults-only, but is less kid-friendly than it’s sister property, Westin Hapuna Beach.
This resort was actually the first on the Big Island! Mauna Kea is currently undergoing some major renovations which will include full renovations in both wings and a brand new spa and adults-only pool.
The renovations are going to be stunning. Check out our YouTube channel for videos of a renovated room in the main tower and renovated room in the ocean wing!
The best adults only resorts in Hawaii
If you were hoping for lots of adults only hotels in Hawaii to choose from, I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news! That said, there are two beaitiful adults only resorts in Hawaii, plus a few other great options for adults-only Hawaii vacations and honeymoons.
