Gluten-Free at Sandals Resorts
Yes, you can eat gluten-free at Sandals Resorts!. Every Sandals resort handles gluten-free diets well. They are also among the best all-inclusive resorts for people with celiac disease. What matters most is where you eat, since sit-down restaurants are a much safer bet than the buffet.
The best Sandals resorts if you’re gluten-free are the ones with the most sit-down restaurants. That means Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados are top contenders.
Since they’re side by side, you have double the restaurant options. The Sandals Resorts in St. Lucia also have exchange privileges, although you might not want to leave!
The best gluten-free Sandals Resorts
Before we get started, let me introduce myself. My name is Amy, and I’m a travel agent specializing in honeymoons, Hawaii, and Caribbean all-inclusive vacations. More importantly to the topic at hand, I have celiac disease, so I’m strictly gluten-free!
This guide is for anyone who eats gluten-free at Sandals. That includes people with celiac disease, people with a wheat allergy, and people who are gluten-free by choice. If you have celiac disease or an allergy, the extra steps below matter most.

Quick note: I’m not a doctor, and no resort kitchen can promise zero cross-contact. Always confirm with the chef or restaurant manager when you order.
Gluten-free at Sandals at a glance
- Every Sandals resort can handle gluten-free meals, including for celiac disease.
- Sit-down restaurants are a better choice than the buffet.
- Tell Sandals before you arrive, then tell your server at every meal.
- For the most control over your meals, book a butler suite.
Can you eat gluten-free at Sandals?
Yes. Sandals resorts handle gluten-free diets well, and that includes celiac disease.
Sandals resorts are built around sit-down restaurants, and that’s good news if you’re gluten-free. A meal cooked to order is much easier to keep gluten-free than food sitting on a buffet line.
How careful you need to be depends on why you’re gluten-free. If you have celiac disease or a wheat allergy, cross-contact matters. Watch for shared grills, shared fryers, and sauces made with flour. If you’re gluten-free by choice, the menu and a quick word with your server are usually enough.

What should you tell Sandals if you’re gluten-free?
If you have celiac disease or a wheat allergy
Use the words “celiac disease” or “food allergy,” not just “gluten-free.” In a busy kitchen, “gluten-free” alone can get treated as a preference. Ask for no shared fryers and a clean spot on the grill.
If you’re gluten-free by choice
Tell your server you don’t eat gluten and ask what’s safe on the menu. You’ll have plenty of choices at every sit-down restaurant.
How to tell Sandals you eat gluten-free
Have your travel agent note it on your reservation
Your travel agent can add it to your booking before you go. If you have celiac disease, list it as a food allergy (I know it isn’t!)
Talk to the chef or restaurant manager when you arrive
On your first day, ask the front desk or your butler to set up a quick meeting with the chef or restaurant manager. Explain what you can’t eat and why.
Tell your server at every meal
Tell your server every time, even at a restaurant you ate at the night before. Ask them to check with the chef. This should never be a problem. If it is, ask to speak to the chef yourself.
Why are sit-down restaurants better than the buffet?
Sit-down restaurants are the safest place to eat gluten-free at Sandals. Your food is cooked to order, and you can talk to the person cooking it.
The buffet is the hardest spot. Serving spoons move between dishes, bread sits next to everything, and you can’t see how anything was made. If the buffet is your only option at breakfast or lunch, ask the kitchen for a fresh plate, like eggs cooked to order.
Restaurants built around grilled meat and seafood are always easy. Pizza, pasta, fried food, and bakery desserts are the hardest. However, Sandals can do most things gluten-free, even if it isn’t on the menu!

Why sister resorts help if you’re gluten-free
If you go to and stay at one Sandals Resort, that isn’t a problem at all. However, more sit-down restaurants mean more choices. At some Sandals resorts, you can also eat at a nearby sister resort.
Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados
These two resorts sit next to each other on the south coast of Barbados. Guests can walk between them and eat at both. Read more in my post on Sandals Resorts in Barbados.
The Saint Lucia resorts
Sandals Grande St. Lucian, Sandals Regency La Toc, and Sandals Halcyon Beach have exchange privileges, with a shuttle between them. That gives you three resorts’ worth of restaurants on one trip. Read more in my post on Sandals Resorts in St. Lucia.

Why a butler suite helps if you’re gluten-free
A butler suite gives you the most control over your meals. Your butler can pass your needs to the kitchen, check on orders, and help with dinner reservations.
It also gives you a backup. On a night when nothing on a menu feels right, you can eat in your suite. See my post on Sandals room categories to compare Luxury, Club, and Butler levels.
You also give your Butler all your preferences beforehand, making it even easier.

The best Sandals resorts if you’re gluten-free
Every Sandals resort can handle gluten-free meals. However, some stand out just a little more than others.
Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados
Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados give you the most sit-down restaurants within walking distance. This is a great fit if you want lots of choices without leaving the resort.
Sandals Grande St. Lucian
Sandals Grande St. Lucian is near Rodney Bay in the north of Saint Lucia. You can also eat at the other two Saint Lucia resorts, although you may not want to! This is my favorite.
Sandals Regency La Toc
Sandals Regency La Toc is near Castries in Saint Lucia. You can also eat at Sandals Grande St. Lucian and Sandals Halcyon Beach.
Sandals Halcyon Beach
Sandals Halcyon Beach is the smallest of the three Saint Lucia resorts. Since you can eat at the other two, a smaller resort doesn’t mean fewer choices.
Sandals Royal Plantation
Sandals Royal Plantation is a small, all-butler resort in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Every room has butler service, so someone always knows about your gluten-free needs.

Sandals Royal Curacao
Sandals Royal Curacao is on Curacao, an island outside the hurricane belt. Read more in everything you need to know about Sandals Royal Curacao.
Sandals Grande Antigua
Sandals Grande Antigua is on Dickenson Bay in Antigua. Read more in everything you need to know about Sandals Grande Antigua.
Sandals Royal Bahamian
Sandals Royal Bahamian is in Nassau, a short nonstop flight from Florida and much of the East Coast. A short flight helps if you’re gluten-free, since airport and airplane food is often the hardest part of the trip. See my post on Sandals Resorts in the Bahamas.
Sandals Saint Vincent
Sandals Saint Vincent is on the island of Saint Vincent, close to the Grenadines. Read more in everything you need to know about Sandals Saint Vincent.
Sandals Grenada
Sandals Grenada is on Pink Gin Beach, close to the airport in Grenada. Read more in everything you need to know about Sandals Grenada.

What about the Sandals resorts in Jamaica?
Jamaica has the most Sandals resorts, including Sandals Negril, Sandals Ochi, Sandals Dunn’s River, Sandals South Coast, Sandals Montego Bay, and Sandals Caribbean Cay. They handle gluten-free the same way as every other Sandals.
Some Jamaica resorts are being rebuilt, so check my post on when the Sandals resorts in Jamaica will reopen. For more on each one, see the best Sandals resorts in Jamaica.

What to pack for a gluten-free Sandals trip
It’s never a bad idea to pack some of your favorite snacks. Snacks cover the flight, the airport, and any meal that doesn’t feel right. Check the entry rules for your island before you pack food.
- Sealed, packaged gluten-free snacks like bars, crackers, and nuts
- Tamari or gluten-free soy sauce packets. Sandals should have gluten-free soy sauce, but feel free to bring your favorite.
- A chef card that explains what you can’t eat. I actually don’t do this at Sandals, but I know others who do.
- Any medication your doctor recommends for accidental gluten exposure
For everything else, see my full list of what to pack for Sandals Resorts.
